I'm one of those people that when I see a YouTube vid embedded into someone's post I seldom click on it - so why should I expect you to click on what is below? I've had many favourite songs over the years - Black Books by Nils Lofgren/ Darling Belle by the Incredible String Band/ Eastern Rain by Fairport Convention/ Only Living Boy in New York by S&G. However, I keep returning to this beautiful Joni song - Amelia (written as her tribute to Amelia Earhart - there is some footage of AH throughout the clip). It is also a story of an unhappy love affair and I'm not the only person to think it is her best song - see here
This live version is slightly different from the original and I really would have preferred to have given you the version that is on the CD Hejira - but it was not out there. Skip the last couple of minutes - the guitar player that is with her just goes on a bit too long.

I'm currently listening to Sabali by Amadou & Mariam, I find that anything that lasts my initial crush goes into an equal pile of 'Best Eva Choones' and I could never choose a favourite although Hey Ya! (outkast) will always get me on the table shaking my booty.
BTW had a couple of amazing weeks with Ms M. I took her shopping in Bristol and stopped in at a handmade shoe shop just as they were closing - she got the whole stock out and the girls, not recognising her were mightily pissed off but then amazed when she bought 4 pairs of boots. They saw her card and realised, they told me later that they kept the many cigaerette butts that had accumulated in their ashtray while she was there.

I know how it is about watching videos...I click on them and then click stop until they upload. Then I can watch the video without interruption. So sorry to read about your OU course...still you're making progress and moving along. They should provide you with feedback when you are puzzled about an exam result. How else can you learn? I really would need to reflect about a favorite song...that is a difficult question because my mood influences what sound is the most satisfying.

I have so many favourite songs. They become favourites because I associate them with certain events in my life. It's always a combination of music and lyrics that touch me and whenever I hear them I am immediately taken back to those events. So I can name two off the top of my head at the moment: "Who wants to live forever?" by Queen and "Why" by Annie Lennox. But there are lots more.
Gosh. Not sure I can filter it down to just one song but XTC's Senses Working Overtime always works for me because it is just so joyous and happy and glad to be alive.
I've not listened yet but I will :-)
OMG FF, how can I possibly chose just one song? I adore music and have loads of different songs that I love for all kind of reasons...
e.g. I love the Wings song 'Silly love songs' because it reminds me of singing in the car with my Dad when I was wee. I love 'Delilah' by Tom Jones because every time I hear it I think about a very funny night out with my best mate Tom. Shake A Tailfeather from the Blues Brother's film was the first song that Chris and I ever danced to....
How can I possibly choose??

Oh, FF, I couldn't possibly choose one favorite song above the many I must have ... I like to say I have favorite songs for different moods. And since moods are ever so numerous, there's always room for another song to fit just what I'm feeling in a particular moment.
So for this mood right now, I'll have to say, Alanis Morissette's cover of "Crazy."

Favourite song, so many, so little time, though I do adore Midnight Train to Georgia, Gladys Knight and the Pips, one for you FF, Human, Chasing Cars, Dylan's Rolling Stone, I could play that a million times, often do, and never ever tire of it, anything from Bizet's Carmen, Aretha's Respect, I could go on, but the boys are waiting for a walk round the field, and you know what it is like getting eyeballed.

That's the first time I've seen Amelia. The first time I heard of her was in a song by Ronnie Lane in the 70's. It brings back fond memories.
My favourite song depends on the mood that I'm in. There are so many gems out there.
The first really powerful song I ever heard was Harvey Andrews 'Soldier'.

I just saw your status - Mr. FF has not been well? Hope he's on the mend now!I love her rendition of Hejira in her 1996 album, "Misses"..is one of my favourite albums after "Blue". I love her songs because they are like poems.
