Birds

I've put lots of fat balls on our balcony and it's been really nice to watch the blue tits swinging about eating. The drawback though - some two weeks later - is the state of the balcony. Now I positioned the balls so in theory the bird bottoms would face outwards over the lawn and deposits would be out of sight down below. However, the birds don't seem to realise that they are hanging the wrong way round and they seem to love using the balcony as a toilet. So, I've got to decide whether it is better to feed the birds and have to clean the balcony or remove the balls and lose the birds.

It's a hard one.

It feels like autumn

Everything seems a bit early this year - Easter, big bills and now the weather. It's meant to be quite warm in a week or so but for the moment I am wearing sweaters, socks and boots. I've got some day lilies that I planted this year but all they've produced is greenery, it's not been sunny enough for any flowers. Our neighbour bought us some squashes from his garden yesterday and that is the theme of today's photo.

Triking

In the last week I've been out on my trike a few times and absolutely love the feeling of being out in the open air in a much more fun way than walking. We're very close to the Nantes-Brest canal and the paths alongside it are ideal for a learner cyclist. We hardly see a soul and when I can totally relax during my rides we will probably put the bichons in the huge basket that it is attached to my trike and go out en famille.

All the camellia bushes around here are in full flower which seems such an unwintry thing. If there is snow any day now does that mean that these bushes will not flower again when real spring arrives? I was a bit lazy last year and didn't dig up some of the annual plants that surround our pond and now one of them is flowering again. Yes, in January! If nothing else, that brings global warming right to our doorstep.

As seems usual these days I've got another essay on the go. Political philosophy this time. Oh well.
