My favourite ever song

I'm one of those people that when I see a YouTube vid embedded into someone's post I seldom click on it - so why should I expect you to click on what is below? I've had many favourite songs over the years - Black Books by Nils Lofgren/ Darling Belle by the Incredible String Band/ Eastern Rain by Fairport Convention/ Only Living Boy in New York by S&G. However, I keep returning to this beautiful Joni song - Amelia (written as her tribute to Amelia Earhart - there is some footage of AH throughout the clip). It is also a story of an unhappy love affair and I'm not the only person to think it is her best song - see here

This live version is slightly different from the original and I really would have preferred to have given you the version that is on the CD Hejira - but it was not out there. Skip the last couple of minutes - the guitar player that is with her just goes on a bit too long.

Do you have a favourite song of all time? Of course you do- what is it?

Thank you for your sweet comment :) and hey! if they didn't appreciate your hard work, their loss. Maybe the poor examiner was in a daft mood and thought "Let me unreward these hardworking students". I say demand a reassessment, you are allowed, go for it.

Thanks for posting one of the best female singers and writers. I think she's right next to Hendrix on my playlist.

Oh, I'm definitely going to listen to this as Joni Mitchell is a favourite!

Clarity - Boo to harsh examiners!

Fi - Joni is a goddess

That's a great song and I love Only Living Boy in New York too.

I'm currently listening to Sabali by Amadou & Mariam, I find that anything that lasts my initial crush goes into an equal pile of 'Best Eva Choones' and I could never choose a favourite although Hey Ya! (outkast) will always get me on the table shaking my booty.

BTW had a couple of amazing weeks with Ms M. I took her shopping in Bristol and stopped in at a handmade shoe shop just as they were closing - she got the whole stock out and the girls, not recognising her were mightily pissed off but then amazed when she bought 4 pairs of boots. They saw her card and realised, they told me later that they kept the many cigaerette butts that had accumulated in their ashtray while she was there.

Ms. French Fancy,
I know how it is about watching videos...I click on them and then click stop until they upload. Then I can watch the video without interruption. So sorry to read about your OU course...still you're making progress and moving along. They should provide you with feedback when you are puzzled about an exam result. How else can you learn? I really would need to reflect about a favorite song...that is a difficult question because my mood influences what sound is the most satisfying.

I hope that you have a rejuvenating week. Your sweet pups and lovely setting are enough to celebrate. Plus you have Mr. FF and a trip to the UK soon. I love your song was saturated with mood. Beautiful. <3

I have so many favourite songs. They become favourites because I associate them with certain events in my life. It's always a combination of music and lyrics that touch me and whenever I hear them I am immediately taken back to those events. So I can name two off the top of my head at the moment: "Who wants to live forever?" by Queen and "Why" by Annie Lennox. But there are lots more.

Gosh. Not sure I can filter it down to just one song but XTC's Senses Working Overtime always works for me because it is just so joyous and happy and glad to be alive.

Carol said...

I've not listened yet but I will :-)

OMG FF, how can I possibly chose just one song? I adore music and have loads of different songs that I love for all kind of reasons...

e.g. I love the Wings song 'Silly love songs' because it reminds me of singing in the car with my Dad when I was wee. I love 'Delilah' by Tom Jones because every time I hear it I think about a very funny night out with my best mate Tom. Shake A Tailfeather from the Blues Brother's film was the first song that Chris and I ever danced to....

How can I possibly choose??

Thanks for the lovely comment, FF! Just checked out Rocket Dog Boots (new name to me!) and they look so comfortable! Wonder if I can get them here on the edge of Europe (& sanity!) But there's always the internet luckily!

Will be featuring shoes in my new little Monday fashion spot in due course (though not ones you'd actually want to walk in...haha!)

Hope you're having a great Monday!

xxLOL LOLA & Nora:)
Hugs to Poppy & Misty!

I like this to xx

The Bangles - Eternal Flame is my favourite song. I had it as my first dance.

Oh, FF, I couldn't possibly choose one favorite song above the many I must have ... I like to say I have favorite songs for different moods. And since moods are ever so numerous, there's always room for another song to fit just what I'm feeling in a particular moment.

So for this mood right now, I'll have to say, Alanis Morissette's cover of "Crazy."

I've given you the "Your Blog is Fabulous Award" don't have to follow the rules, but I can't leave you off my list!

FF, please tell me that you and Mr FF were slightly inebriated, and you tripped over each other, trying to reach the bottle of wine first.

Favourite song, so many, so little time, though I do adore Midnight Train to Georgia, Gladys Knight and the Pips, one for you FF, Human, Chasing Cars, Dylan's Rolling Stone, I could play that a million times, often do, and never ever tire of it, anything from Bizet's Carmen, Aretha's Respect, I could go on, but the boys are waiting for a walk round the field, and you know what it is like getting eyeballed.

Love Joni Mitchell, enjoyed this.

Nora -I like some Dylan - the old stuff - Highway 61. Thank for the thanks :)

FFF - I feel bad now because I have listened to some people's clips - I bet I've clicked on some of yours.

Lulu - 4 pairs of boots - Lucky Miss M. Yet again more musicians that I've never heard of - you are so much more in the loop than me

Cynthia -that is the thing with me as well - sometimes the clips just take so long to load. Thanks for all the love you put in your messages

Ayak - I love that Queen song as well. Freddie's voice - magnificent on that song.

Steve - yes, that was a good song

Carol - one song is alm0st impossible to select really; it was an unfair question

Nora - I get nearly all my rockets online - I've blogged about them frequently - if you look in the index on the right under 'Buying Things'

claire - some songs you can just listen to over and over again and never get sick of them

Carrie - that is one of 'Our' songs - Mr FF and me (Eternal Flame)

ContemTroub - Her 'Ironic' is one of my favourite songs

Ayak (again) oo thanks missus :)

The Dotterel - isn't it lovely, such a gorgeous song and the footage of Amelia is superb - I didn't even know what she looked like before this

Ann - he fell over Sunday morning whilst on a walk - I was safely at home with the bichons. It is normally me that falls over.

Re Human -I find myself singing it around the house but making up silly lyrics - I love the melody

Reasons - a fellow Joni fan - I should have guessed

That's the first time I've seen Amelia. The first time I heard of her was in a song by Ronnie Lane in the 70's. It brings back fond memories.
My favourite song depends on the mood that I'm in. There are so many gems out there.

The first really powerful song I ever heard was Harvey Andrews 'Soldier'.

The Accidental Fan said...

Well my favourite song is

Mr FF, what a pillock! Fancy tripping over without a bottle of wine near you. Tsk.

This was one of the few times I have clicked on a you-tube.(I like your taste.......)
I must say I quite enjoyed I'm glad I did.
However, in general I read blogs at warp-speed and do not have the time even 3 or 4 minutes to linger.
Music is so very very personal.

If I go to a blog that blares music at me without me asking it to it's Siberia and I never go there ever again.
Old and grumpy I guess.

I have moved my blog to

if you have the chance leave me a comment so I don't lose you.....!

I just saw your status - Mr. FF has not been well? Hope he's on the mend now!I love her rendition of Hejira in her 1996 album, "Misses" one of my favourite albums after "Blue". I love her songs because they are like poems.

French Fancy - thanks for visiting my blog and for your kind comments. I have so many fave songs that evoke different memories. Like Ayak I am very fond of 'Who wants to live forever' by Queen and at the moment I am repeatedly listening to Elton John's 'The boy in the red shoes'.
I hope you will pop by my blog again. BTW your pups are so gorgeous.

French Fancy said...

Ken - who is never going to read this because he is now busy coming to France - I don't even know who Harvey Andrews is but I'm off to find out!

TAF - is it a catchy tune? Maybe one day I will hear you sing it

Elizabeth - yes, I hate unasked for music on a blog - I hit the mute button straight away. I'm just about to add your new link to my sidebar

Fifi -agreed!

ASD - he fell over last Sunday whilst out on a wak - but he has done remarkably well with loving care, the right exercises and some anti-inflamms.
I knew you were a fellow Joni fan

Jazzy - I don't know that Elton track - in fact I haven't listened to any new stuff of his for a few years now - I'm off to investigate it
Will revisit you, don't worry
