There is an expat talkboard that I subscribe to and one of the categories is Animals. For a long time there were awful threads on here about poor French dogs being tied up outside the owner's house, kept in barns in the dark or abandoned on the streets. I used to get very upset and made a vow not to access this particular part of the forum.
However today I decided to see what was going on there and the latest post was from someone trying to find a home for a two year old female bichon frisé. Now I already have a two year old female bichon and we have often discussed getting a second one. How opportune is this!
