Not around much now for a couple of weeks

Please forgive me for not having been round to your blogs very much over the last few days. I'm at a crucial time in my OU studies - in three weeks time I have to submit my final piece in the Creative Writing course (A215) and this will be sent to my tutor and two examiners and will get me 50% of my final mark for the year.

We have a choice of genres for this piece and I have chosen to do one of an autobiographical nature. You might remember that I only got 60% when I did the poetry month recently. That was followed by an autobiographical piece which got me 84% and a recommendation from my tutor that I extend it and submit it to either writing competitions or for publication. That has encouraged me to do this final piece in a similar format - stories of my 'wild child time' involving a couple of well known names (all of it true and no doubt extremely libellous). For obvious reasons I am not going to put them on my blog - we'll see what happens with them in the future. Let's just say they involve a person who has an airline and a record label.

The photos which I took yesterday are to show that the peonies I blogged about recently have bloomed. It's one of the most beautiful shrubs I have ever seen.

Hi Julie
Get stuck in and make it happen.
I'll see you when you come out the other end with mission accomplished.

Go for it. It sounds like a wonderfully evocative project - good luck!

Good luck! Let us know where we can get hold of it when it's finished...! :)

Good luck with it. Sounds like you have some very interesting subject matter:-)

In creative writing, the mantra is to write always about something (or someone) you know, er, intimately.

Good luck!

XOXO LOLA:)

Good luck with the writing.

I too am loving the peoniness of my garden - Yay!

Good luck with all your studies and writing.

"Let's just say they involve a person who has an airline and a record label."

Crikey. Sir Richard seems a nice guy, but perhaps you know otherwise?

My dear, I shall miss you quite frightfully. But you are right about concentrating your study in order obtain the best grades which you shall get (I have every confidence in you). You have got a talent in writing (although your grade illustrates that writing the autobiography is your strength, I have a feeling that it would be great whatever you write). So keep going and I will buy the first customer to buy the book when it's published! I'm always intrigued by the mysterious nature of your acquaintance! You have given us two guesses "an airline" and "a record label"...so it will be someone classy!! xxx PS. I love your peonies - one of my favourite flowers. But they don't last for a long time in the vase!!

Sorry not to reply individually. If I spend too long in the blogosphere I will want to go and read all your stories and posts and I have to try and focus (gosh, it's hard to be disciplined)

Good luck; I hope it goes well. I have just sent off my third TMA of the current course and am thinking about taking next year off so I can read the books I still keep buying.

I am still waiting for my peonies to come out - if it doesn't warm up soon they may just give up and go back underground for next year!

Beautiful peonies...I love waiting for mine to turn from bud to bloom.

So you knew him too....

Lovely flowers- I can relate to the excitement of seeing blooms...I have been trying to get a gardenia to bloom for two years. Right now, I see one just ready to open. I worry that it's getting too much water and not enough drainage...I experimented with coffee grounds as a soil enhancer- then worried it might be the wrong idea...but it seems to be working.

I wish you well on the autobiographical piece! How exciting.

Wishing you luck with your work! Catch up with you here or FB. best wishes Blu x

That *does* sound like an exciting piece! And I know how consuming the writing process is -- it's time well spent, though. Good luck on that final mark!

You're excused. Love the flowers. As I am just back from les vacances I haven't been around much, either.

Freddie Laker?

Clive Davis?

I think we should be told!!!

Bonne chance, ma belle FF - Ciao for now... x

The last thing we want is an unfocused autobiographer. But do tell — which car will be the subject of your piece?

You had a "wild child time"? Ah, perhaps that was when you were working with the "interesting" film company.

Bon chance, FF.

Oh dear, does this mean you're not virgin any more ? No, scratch that question... didn't come out sounding like I meant...

Oh! I know who it is! I know who it is!

Good luck, FF, and please do share as I am dying to read it.

Same with me. I was just about to post something similar at my place.

I've done about 2000 very tortured words in a month! So slow.... zzz

Sorry yet again for not doing comments.

Good luck with your studies FF.

I know who you mean, famous, airline and record label. It's Jet, isn't it? Known in some rather dodgy circles as Easy Jet. Didn't know she had a record label though.

Good luck with your final assignment FF. I am very envious of your tutor and examiners getting the opportunity to read it!!

Good Luck to you FF. I've been out of the loop too but not for anything as important as this. But I have to say, you've piqued my curiosity and I WANT TO READ THE STORY!

French Fancy... said...

Ha ha Phil- yep, my wild time with Madame E Jet (exclamation mark frenzy)

Actually there is nothing terrible to report about the person concerned. He's a lovely lovely bloke and my anecdotes are more amusing than libellous.

It's a bit of a slog - I've got 1500 words left to write and to say it's not flowing yet is an understatement

fly - thank you sweetie. It's become a bit slow atm but I'll be Wii jogging later and on the stepper in the basement to try and speed it up this week. Too much sitting trying to get this final piece done I think.

I know how it can seem - not replying to individual comments but I seldom do it so please make allowances. Normal service will be resumed in about ten days

Your peonies look beautiful. Some of mine have come out too - it's a shame they don't last very long. Good luck with all the studying - I'm full of awe and admiration

Best of luck on your studies! My peonies have just started to bloom, as well. I love the palest pink ones.

I'd have sent a good luck email but cannot find yours, so fingers and toes crossed on your behalf and I know you'll do well...

PS: Exercise always helped when the "flow" was disrupted for me...

Dear FF, it's just occurred to me who your mystery person is! In a former life (don't ask!), I came into contact with Heathrow airline personnel including flight attendants (female)! If it's who I now think it is, there's a line already forming to add a few postscripts (some rather naughty!) to your assignment!

By the time you read this hopefully all will be finished and you'll be back with us again in blogland! You're badly missed!

A bientot et bisous a Poppy et Misty!x

Hope it's all going well hon...I'm right in the thick of it all too (which is why I've not been around much either)...see you on the other side :-)

Hello all - first draft done but now I also have to get a commentary done reflecting on it and the course in general. Once that's done I'll be back to do a proper catch up

Good luck with the writing. Getting the first draft out is usually a big relief even if more work remains.

Pretty flower in the picture.

Thank you all for your patience

Oh good luck with that...how I wish they had had a creative writing course when I was doing my degree [might have got a better one]

Peonies are just the loveliest flowers, so delicate, but so quickly gone.
Actually came over to say thanks for the visit and to try to persuade you that WOLF HALL is superb. Mantel has written the story of Thomas Cromwell from a different angle and it is very very hard to put down. I was there, eavesdropping on the high and mighty. It is a novel unlike any other I have ever read on that period in our history [and makes me want to rewrite my own]. Do try it if you ever have the time to read for pleasure again.

I'm off on a writing course next week - only way to get some sensible time and proper work done.

Will tell you how it goes - an dprobably blog it too.
