Oh, who's that on a Sunday?

Spotting the florist on the doorstep holding - what else would it be - a bunch of flowers

Sont ceux pour moi?

(Florist thinks - of course they are; why else would I be here with them)

Yes, Mr FF has done what he always does - excels at those romantic gestures that women the world over hope for on the 14th February. When he used to send the roses to my office it was always with a feeling of loved-up pride that I would carry them home on (in the early days) a crowded tube back to North London and then (once living together) on a civilised train carriage back to Hampshire.

I won't link to the previous bouquets he has sent me and that I have already blogged about - each bunch stands alone in its beauty.

Being separated today of all days is hard but we know it is happening for a good reason

It's always a pleasure to receive flowers, I think they lighten up a mood in whatever circumstances.

Oh FF, how lovely, I did not realise you were on your own at weekends, for some reason I thought it was just during the week. Bon Courage and a Happy Valentines day.

How civilized the French are to have deliveries on a Sunday... my roses for my wife came yesterday; it was the closest day I could get thanks to our dear UK British postal service.

Beautiful roses. Mr FF did good. Vanni did good too lol, not the same as having them by your side though is it?.

Sorry you're not together today...knowing there's a reason is fine for the mind, but not for the heart.

I am sorry you are not with your husband today, hope he can make it next year.

As for the "man who can", if he "cancan" email a girl I know who is itching to watch The Alfred Hitchcock Hour on the nbc site - well... could he/you pass on instructions?

I feel as if I'm meeting someone in a dark alley, much fun with none of the sin (just my style).

They are absolutely gorgeous! I bet they smell heavenly too. So sorry to hear that Mr FF is not at home with you this weekend.

Nice roses ... but is there a secret message included? I mean what about those two clothespins? What do they represent or symbolize?

A beautiful gesture for sure. I hate domestic separations and we had to endure that for two years, only seeing each other every second weekend. But, we endured.

Hello CJ - I'm so with you on this -and if nobody buys them for me then I buy them for myself - but not on Valentine's Day

Dash - the weekends when Mr FF is home are not regular - it's as and when. Next week it will be me going there though - hurrah

Steve - our local florist is always open on a Sunday. The French are big on family Sunday lunches at each other's houses and bouquets will be taken

Kathy - ah, our romantic men so far away from us

tfitw - we've been playing Facebook Scrabble this weekend though - keeping our connections up

Clarity - It is too involved to talk about really. Sorry to be difficult but this site will help
http://www.thefreecountry.com/security/anonymous.shtml

Ladyfi - they actually have no smell whatsoever - they are bred for beauty not for the nose

Frankie - frankly a fabulous frivolous frippery from you

Bill - funny you mentioned that. Mr FF said before they were not a hint :). They are actually holding in place a ribbon with some ruby hearts.

Ian - at least you knew it was every second weekend - atm we have no set plan. But we will cope as well

Mind you I'm paying a price for these flowers - I've got the heat turned off in the kitchen to keep the blooms as fresh as possible and boy is it cold

Gosh! How Fab! Very beautiful. I know what you mean about taking flowers home on the tube. To be honest it only happened to me once ot twice from the wonderful Mr.H. I wasn't in London long enough to have many of them. But it is great to receive them and then parade them. Glad that you and Mr.FF. can keep in touch with Facebook Scrabble. LIRLNABTI!

I haven't got you any roses but I have dedicated tomorrow's Musical Monday to you!

That's really nice. I got woken up at 9am by a florist delivering a bunch for Attila - her boyfriend is in France till wednesday (and has more money than sense methinks). She didn't hear the doorbell, and slept on till 11. Jammy so and so, I couldn't get back to sleep.

A warm heart in a cold kitchen...blooming good if you ask me!

That's so sweet! You're so lucky, but sorry that you're not together today.

Very gorgeous flowers! Roses are so extravagant. You used to live in Hants? Where?

French Fancy... said...

Hade - yes, clutching a bouquet going homewards on 14th February is a very nice feeling. Lots of people smile at you and you do indeed feel very special

Frenchshelter - hello there my newest find in the blogosphere - and thank you

Molly - that line has lovely beats to it

Dumdad - yesterday evening I kept wondering what track(s) you were going to select - I didn't get them right.

CA - oh good on her boyfriend for doing this. Nobody at that age sent me flowers but I did get cards and teddy bears - that sort of thing

Ken - gosh, that kitchen is getting colder and colder. I might have to rethink the plan

Dedene - but we will be next weekend - hurrah

Lulu - it is romantic but he also does lovely things all year round, not all of them costing money. It's the sweet little thoughtful things that are the most special

DJ - we used to live in Winchester, for a few years and every morning I could be seen on the 07.02 train to Waterloo - thus I became a commuter.

Dumdad said...

French Fancy,

I was resisted in what Al Stewart tracks to select as there doesn't seem to be much of his stuff on YouTube apart from Year of the Cat.

Manuscript is also one of my all-time favourites and I would have chosen that or Zero for the post.

French Fancy... said...

Dumdad - there's quite a few of him live from the noughties. We try and plan our trips back to the UK to coincide with him coming back touring round Europe.

Re Jimmy Page playing on LC - all his earlier albums seemed to be like a Who's Who of session musicians, including another favourite of mine - Richard Thompson. Funny how these two UK men married American girls and settled in California (lucky them really)

French Fancy,

"I was resisted in what Al Stewart tracks..."

I meant:

"I was RESTRICTED in what Al Stewart tracks..."

Thank God for men who excel in romantic gestures! You're a lucky woman and the most wonderful thing is that you know it! I hope Mr. FF is home soon.

Darling FF, I love what you have done here = I did read and catch up your blogs last week, without commenting, so sorry... Have been pressed for time and feeling crapilola with a heavy cold (did I hear you say, 'Again?'!)

As for WW, was great for a week, then fell off the wagon with illness... No excuse really, but am on hols this week at home, so shall try to be good... I just find the motivation to change my lifestyle (which I know I need to do!) is lacking...

As for TCS, I totally agree with you, my dahlink! I was following the story (too many characters?) and then I felt from time to time I was reading an academic piece on ceramics/art/history/banking, whatever it happened to be! Very odd, really... Possession really had the magic, as you say, TCS not so...

I felt it was as if she was trying to show off how much she knows about the period (or what her researchers have googled, perchance!); It could have done with a healthy excising of the verbals, methinks... And I felt desperately sorry about Tom... The only character that you got to know properly, I think... Odd. So many other characters were so lacking in sympathy from the reader... Unlikeable, really...

Good luck to you at your French WW... Hope it goes better than my current experience... And congrats on those wonderful flowers... I didn't even get a card, but then I expect no less... x

They look lovely, and as Steve said - how civilised to get them on a Sunday.

My mutual agreement Sarah and I didn't 'do' Valentines Day this year... events earlier in the week have led to a somewhat low-key few days and although we've lots to celebrate, it wasn't really quite the time.

Gosh!

quite the most lovely arrangement I've seen in ages

Oh my dear, romance and chilvary are still alive! The roses from Mr FF is so beautiful. I love the fact that they are pink (red are also beautiful but they are so cliche). Isn't it a lovely gesture to be showered by affection and flowers as a gift? Who wouldn't love flowers? Whether it is Valentine's day or not, flowers always brighten up my day. Mr. FF is oh so romantic....I wish I could meet a man like him (although it would be hard as he is totally unique).

French Fancy... said...

Dumdad - I do typos all the time - and then also come back to try and show that I knew what I was doing all along :)

Delana - I am lucky - we were destined to meet I reckon, despite me being years older than him (16 to be precise)

AWONI - what a lovely long comment you left. I'm still at the enthusiastic stage of the beginning a new diet plan (again!) - isn't it hard though? At least I have only myself to think about here and have banished all tempting things from the house.

Shame about your cold - you are a bit run down and low I reckon - roll on the spring

Hiya Dotterel - well we decided this year we would not do birthday pressies due to financial constraints. It felt most odd in January not to give Mr FF a present though - it's mine in two weeks and I really do hope he doesn't buy me anything - even though we had this agreement, well you know what can sometimes happen.

Elizabeth - the photo doesn't do them justice really. Well it might if you had taken it.

ASD - he has done long-stemmed reds many times before but I was due for a change. I'll tell you something - a few months (and a few bouquets) after we met I decided to send him some flowers at his place of work. He had treated me after all - it was my turn. Well his colleagues teased and teased him - apparently it is not the done thing, a woman to send flowers to a man. In this day and age I think it is a perfectly normal thing to do. Oh well.

xx

They're gorgeous. Mr FF certainly does excel.

Will you keep one and press it?

They are beautiful! I must show this to my husband who thinks that flowers are something that grow in the garden.

How lovely! I'm single and can't recall the last flowers gifted to me. I buy small bunches when possible, but my cats inevitably chew on them and leave a mess. I hope yours will last a bit.

Angie Muresan said...

Oh, those are some beautiful roses! Mr. FF is a keeper to be sure, yet also the luckiest man to have you, my dear friend. Love and hugs!

A Super Dilettante said...

FF my dear, I totally agreed. There's nothing wrong with a woman giving flowers to a man (I can say this without being ashamed because in my country, in the New Year, a woman gives flowers to a man. We think it's a positive reinforcement :) You show them how you want to be treated and they follow your footsteps.

French Fancy... said...

Lane - that is a very good idea and one I had not thought of. Yes - I will. Thanks for the tip

cw - yes, wave it in front of him and tell him that a bouquet now and then would be appreciated.

e - your cats share something in common with our rescue bichon, Poppy. She also likes flower petals - first noticed when she had a mouth full of pollen once. Everything is now out of reach

Angie - Mr FF is the man I was always meant to be with. I had to wait to be older to find him - as he is so much younger than me. It wouldn't have been allowed otherwise :p

ASD - that is exactly what I thought at the time - and when we spoke about it after Mr FF said he was a bit horrified by his colleagues' reaction. Stone age men I guess

How I know what you mean when you talk about how hard it is to be apart -- hope you will get to celebrate belatedly next time you see each other.

Mr. FF has very nice taste in flowers :)

How sweet. Bet they smell wonderful. You are a lucky Madame FF.

French Fancy... said...

CT - we'll be together in Paris this weekend and then he will be home again for my birthday weekend in two week's time.

Phil - the flowers are opening up now and the roses are beginning to smell. It looks even lovelier now.

Yes, I am lucky - love is the most important thing in the world (and goood health - I'm working on that one)

A Super Dilettante said...

Have a lovely weekend in Paris. Hope you both are happy with the apartment and I'm sure Mr FF will be relieved to have his apartment in Paris.
