Guantanamo Bay

I'm not a very political person. One of the apathetic majority who don't really spend a lot of time thinking about the Big Issues of the day. But yesterday I read a report in the Guardian weekly (yes. the subscription thing I blogged about recently) about Guantanamo Bay and it was a bit of a wake-up call, to be honest. People are being abused in there on a more or less daily basis. Subjected to excessive noise, sleep deprivation, being mocked for being muslim. One person had to perform tricks like a dog - attached to a collar and lead. There have been three suicides in the last year. And this is from a report compiled by the FBI. Yes, the FBI have reported these things. If an organisation that could be considered loyal to the USA and to Bush are telling us these things, imagine what a set-up like Amnesty could find if they were allowed access.

How long will it be before these poor souls are either set free or, if they are in fact guilty of wrong doing, brought to trial?

It's quite interesting that although Bush seems to be isolated now, there don't seem to be any noises from the other side of the house about sorting the mess out. But I agree - Hillary for President!
